Cold Sore Treatments
Cold sores can be eliminated at our office with laser treatments to provide you with relief.
Cold Sore Treatment
Our office has determined that diagnosing a cold sore outbreak early and treating it with a laser can improve healing times greatly. Without treatment, cold sores usually heal within a couple of days and vanish within a few weeks. Patients who suffer from cold sores can use creams, ointments or over-the-counter treatments to shorten healing times, but laser treatment cuts it down exponentially.
What are cold sores?
Cold sores are small, fluid-filled blisters that commonly appear on the lips. About 67% of the population suffers from cold sores. Laser treatment can reduce the healing time for cold sores.
How are cold sores treated?
The first sign of a cold sore is a tingling sensation. Once you feel this sensation, contact your dentist right away so they can diagnose the sore during a dental exam. Your dentist will determine if laser treatment is right for you, which destroys the virus and stops it from spreading to other areas of your body.
If you use laser treatment, your cold sore can be gone within two days! Without laser treatment, you may have the sore for four to five days, or three to four days if you are using a cream.
What causes cold sores?
Cold sores, or fever blisters, are small fluid-filled blisters on and around your lips. They’re caused by a herpes simplex virus closely related to the one that causes genital herpes. A cold sore will usually heal in two to four weeks without leaving a scar, but it can be long-lasting if not treated.
